Alabama football is expanding the role of this WR on offense

Gary Cosby Jr. - USA Today Sports

A unique talent for Alabama football is getting an expanded role on offense.

Nick Saban has recruited speed and playmakers as wide receivers from Louisiana, but a decision he made for the 2022 recruiting class gives the Crimson Tide more than a receiver. Kendrick Law, a former four-star prospect, played multiple positions at Captain Shreve (Shreveport, La.) High School. The 5-foot-11, 201-pounder is built like Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers.

Samuel plays multiple roles in the National Football League, and he did it in college at South Carolina.

Law gives you excellence as a slot receiver, running back, and kickoff return specialist. He is the kind of player that can provide instant offense when he gets the ball. Law, a sophomore, provided the Crimson Tide a spark versus Tennessee with two catches for 38 yards. He took a pop pass from Jalen Milroe and delivered a 34-yard gain in the Tide’s 34-20 victory over the Volunteers.

Coach Saban wants to expand Law’s role because of the competitor and team player he is. He made an impact against the marquee program of his home state last week. Law totaled two catches for 25 yards — showing speed versus Louisiana State University at Bryant-Denny Stadium. He assisted Alabama to a 42-28 victory and gave Saban an awesome birthday present.

Saban addressed reporters on Monday about how the Tide plans to incorporate Law more.

“K Law has been a significant player for us all year long, especially on special teams,” Saban said.

“He has had some role on offense, but we did expand that role a little bit. The guy is a great competitor, a hard worker, and he has a skill set that can be utilized offensively. I think we are starting to use that.”

Law had 77 return yards on three kickoff attempts. He nearly broke two returns for touchdowns, providing Alabama fans the potential he has to score from any position on the field. Tommy Rees is finding ways to get him the ball, but it has to be done more.
