Former Alabama QB details what has him impressed with Crimson Tide following its win over LSU

Greg McElroy looks to the crowd on set with ESPN

College football pundits across the landscape were impressed by Alabama’s performance versus LSU.

Since its loss to Texas, the media has seen Nick Saban gather his team and position it for an opportunity to play for a Southeastern Conference Championship and a College Football Playoff shot. The Crimson Tide played its most complete game in last week’s 42-28 victory over the Tigers at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama looked efficient on offense, and its defense adjusted to stop Jayden Daniels and LSU in the second half. Greg McElroy, a former Tide quarterback, was impressed with his Alma mater for a few reasons. He sees Alabama as a ‘dangerous team’ if it can continue to build off its performance against LSU.

“We had talked for a while that ‘Bama is a work in progress, but they can beat anybody,” McElroy said Sunday on his Always College Football podcast.

“What I saw last night was the product of the evolution. From week two when they lost to Texas to week 10 when they convincingly handled LSU, think about how different that team looked. They were able to find some juice offensively, thanks in large part to Jalen Milroe’s legs. They were able to get things going in the passing game because the coverage was soft … But Jalen Milroe’s legs were the difference in this one. That is what we need to see from Jalen Milroe moving forward.”

McElroy said if Milroe plays the way he did versus LSU moving forward, then Alabama is in a really good spot.

“He is super dynamic,” McElroy said about Milroe.

“He looked more comfortable last night than he’s looked all season. So, ‘Bama reminds everybody, ‘We are still here!’ I hope the world is taking notice. Right now, I think they have a real strong chance against the Georgia Bulldogs.”

Milroe was effective versus LSU — totaling 219 passing yards, 155 rushing yards, and four touchdowns.

He now turns his attention to helping Alabama handle Kentucky.
