What does Jalen Milroe need to do to have a shot to win the Heisman

Gary Cosby Jr. - USA Today Sports

The University of Alabama has four Heisman Trophy winners in school history, including a quarterback.

Could a fifth winner be crowned in the Nick Saban era?

RELATED: What are the odds Jalen Milroe can win the Heisman Trophy?

Jalen Milroe has gotten better each week as a starting quarterback. Still, he turned in his best performance versus Louisiana State University at Bryant-Denny Stadium in a marquee Southeastern Conference Game. The sophomore led the Crimson Tide to a dominant, 42-28 victory over the Tigers. He became the first Alabama signal-caller to record four rushing touchdowns in a game.

Milroe has 22 total scores on the season, and his name is starting to get into the Heisman conversation.

He’s behind names such as Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels, but Milroe is talented. The native Texan needs more significant performances in the Tide’s final three regular-season games and the SEC Championship Game to have a shot to win. Milroe has to have strong moments in the passing game versus Kentucky, Auburn, and the SEC title game to impress Heisman voters to award him. It can be done, but Milroe has to turn his game up more to give himself a chance.

He cannot afford bad turnovers or a second loss. If he can light up defenses for the remainder of the year, Milroe should get invited to New York City for the Heisman Trophy presentation.
