Eli Owens recently released a top nine, which included the Tide along with South Florida, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Michigan and Wisconsin.
The tight end has been a major reason for Alcoa High School’s No. 1 ranking in the Knoxville area and top ten ranking in the state of Tennessee. He is listed as a three-star recruit on most recruiting sites. The Tennessee product holds several D1 offers.
Touchdown Alabama was able to catch up with Owens regarding his recruitment as of late.
Owens feels all of the schools in his top nine are even, but he loves what he sees at Alabama.
“Just the history of the program and what coach Saban’s been able to do,” said Owens responding to what really sticks out about the Crimson Tide. “Along with the way they’ve used their tight ends this season and the success they’ve had (using the TE). Really the consistency in which they’re used and how much they stay on the field.”
Tommy Rees has incorporated the tight end in the offense more than Alabama has the past couple of seasons, so he is a big reason why Owens is interested in the Tide. Owens also says he has a great relationship with other members of the Tide’s coaching staff. The 2025 prospect has built the best bond with Alabama’s tight end coach Joe Cox.
“Just how cerebral he is and he’s a good guy,” said Owens about Coach Cox.
Owens says he has been to Tuscaloosa twice before but definitely wants to get back soon. He will try to return for a game this season he says, but if he is unable to, he will visit after the season concludes.
