Alabama head coach Nick Saban gave the latest injury update on linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive back Jaylen Key during his Wednesday press conference.
Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide defense, the two starters have yet to take the practice field this week.
“They haven’t been able to practice yet, but it’s still kind of day-to-day,” Saban said. “If guys can’t practice on Thursday, it’s probably pretty tough for the to (play) in the game. So maybe we’ll know more tomorrow.”
Key was knocked out of the game in the first quarter of last Saturday’s 42-28 win over LSU with a quad injury. Alabama would bring in Kristian Story to replace Key along with transfer defensive back Trey Amos seeing extended play.
Lawson sustained an ankle injury during an attempt to tackle Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels last Saturday and would limp to the locker room at the start of the fourth quarter. He was replaced by Jihaad Campbell for the remainder of the game.
Alabama will kickoff at Kentucky this Saturday at 11 a.m. with ESPN on the call.
