Nick Saban recently gave his thoughts on James Madison and other college football programs being denied bowl eligibility.
James Madison, Jacksonville State and Tarleton State each submitted waivers to play in postseason games, but each was denied.
The current NCAA rules prohibit programs, who move up from FCS to FBS from playing in postseason games during the first two years. James Madison is in its second year in the FBS and is currently 10-0. The Dukes are in the mix to possibly play in a New Year’s Six Bowl.
Saban was asked his thoughts on the decision during an interview on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
“The one thing that I do think is it’s unfortunate for the players, the school, the university, that they’ve worked so hard to have this success and now they’re not being allowed to participate and take advantage of what they’ve created for themselves,” Saban said. “I don’t quite get the significance of why it’s an important thing for them to not play or play or whatever. That’s kind of beyond my pay grade.”
