Did Auburn commit a penalty before bad snap by Alabama in Iron Bowl?

Alabama football’s head coach Nick Saban was asked did he see what appeared to be an Auburn player clapping his hands before the Crimson Tide’s Center, Seth McLaughlin, snapped the football and it went by Jalen Milroe for a huge loss in the fourth quarter of the Iron Bowl.

Video has surfaced of what appears to be Auburn safety, Zion Puckett, clapping his hands before an Alabama snap. This may have confused McLaughlin as he snapped the football earlier than expected with the Tide using the clap as a cadence to snap the football.

Saban said he had not seen the film of the play when he was asked the question, but he felt a penalty should have been called.

“First of all, the defense is not allowed to clap if that’s what you’re using as a cadence,” Saban said. “If what you say actually occurred, and I did see the film, then I’m not criticizing the officiating, but I’m saying that’s supposed to be a penalty.”

Video of the play can be streamed below:
