Alabama football signed a defensive player — LT Overton — from the transfer portal, but could Nick Saban target an offensive standout next for the Crimson Tide?
Evan Stewart, a former five-star wide receiver, entered the NCAA transfer portal. He chose Texas A&M in its top-ranked 2022 recruiting class.
Stewart led the Aggies for receptions (53) and receiving yards (649) as a freshman while catching two touchdown passes. He posted 38 catches for 514 yards and four touchdowns this season. Stewart has experience in marquee games in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama pulled Jameson Williams from Ohio State out of the transfer portal for 2021, and it turned out to be an outstanding move.
Williams had 79 catches for 1,572 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns, propelling the Tide to an SEC Championship and advancing it into the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Alabama returns Isaiah Bond, Kobe Prentice, Kendrick Law, Emmanuel Henderson, Jalen Hale, Malik Benson, and Jaren Hamilton, but it loses Jermaine Burton to the NFL Draft after this season.
It also lost Ja’Corey Brooks to Louisville and Thaiu Jones-Bell to the transfer portal. Saban has to at least consider adding Stewart’s experience to Alabama’s wide receiver room, but we will see what happens.
