Alabama linebacker Shawn Murphy found his new football home on Monday. According to 247Sports’s Matt Zenitz, Murphy has committed to play football at Florida State.
Murphy is now the fifth former member of the Crimson Tide to join the Seminoles as he joins wide receiver Malik Benson, cornerback Earl Little, offensive lineman Terrence Ferguson and running back Roydell Williams.
Murphy entered the transfer portal on Saturday and is one of four former members of the team to enter following the retirement of Nick Saban and the introduction of Kalen DeBoer as the new head coach. The other three who departed to the portal were wide receiver Isaiah Bond and defensive backs Dezz Ricks and Antonio Kite.
In two seasons at Alabama, Murphy primarily served in a reserve role at middle linebacker and was expected to be the next primary option behind Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell this upcoming season. The Crimson Tide will now only have four returning scholarship players at middle linebacker which include Lawson, Campbell, Jeremiah Alexander and Justin Jefferson to go along with incoming freshmen Cayden Jones and Justin Orkoronkwo.
