Alabama appears to have found its top target to be the defensive coordinator on Kalen DeBoer’s staff as ESPN’s Chris Low reports that South Alabama head coach Kane Womack is in the process of finalizing a deal to fill the role.
Womack immediately became the favorite to land the job after former Alabama staffer Travaris Robinson, who was a part of Nick Saban’s staff, passed on the job after previously accepting a role on Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia.
This will be the second time Womack and DeBoer have worked together as the two coached at Indiana.
The 36-year-old brings both recruiting and playing experience in the SEC as he played two seasons at Arkansas (2005-06) and served as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss (2012-13).
Womack last served as a defensive coordinator in 2020 with the Hoosiers where he was a Broyles Award finalist.
