Roach, a native of Florence, Ala., is in his third stint on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff and fifth season as its defensive line coach.
He played linebacker for the University of Alabama from 2002 to 2005 and has four national championships (2009, 2015, 2017, and 2020) as an assistant coach. Roach served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach (2008-10), director of player development (2015-17), and now as a defensive line coach. He’s become one of the best recruiters in the state of Alabama, and DeBoer sees value in him.
Roach became elevated to “Assistant Head Coach” this offseason. He will continue working with defensive linemen, but Roach embraces new responsibilities under DeBoer. Roach produced successful seasons from Justin Eboigbe, Tim Kennan III, Tim Smith, Jaheim Oatis, and Jah-Marien Latham in 2023. Eboigbe had a strong fifth year for the Crimson Tide, posting seven sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, and four quarterback hurries. He increased his NFL Draft value.
Roach has an opportunity to produced more marquee guys in the coming fall.
