He spent one season (2023) in the Big Ten as a co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Before Wisconsin, Hitschler served five years at Cincinnati (2018-22) as a quality control coach (defense), senior defensive analyst, safeties coach, and co-defensive coordinator. He joins Kalen DeBoer’s staff as a “Co-defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs” for Alabama football via social media.
Hitschler guided the Badgers to allowing 20.2 points per game in 2023. He mentored Preston Zachman and Hunter Wohler to account for two interceptions each as safeties. In his five years at Cincinnati, Hitschler observed and helped a unit allowed 20 points per game in only two seasons (2019, 2022). He guided the safety position to 12 interceptions in three years with safeties.
Hätschle has National Football League experience as a training camp assistant (Philadelphia Eagles, 2009) and player personnel assistant (Kansas City Chiefs, 2010). He has a strong background with safeties, so working with DeVonta Smith, Malachi Moore, Tony Mitchell, Peyton Woodyard, and others will be interesting for him.
