Alabama in the Pros

Former Alabama player records a pick-six in NFL Pro Bowl Games for AFC

Stephen R. Sylvanie - USA TODAY Sports

The stars of the National Football League were on display this weekend at the NFL Pro Bowl Games in Orlando, Fla.

Several players represented the University of Alabama and had fun. The Pro Bowl is not as competitive as it used to be; however, some still bring an edge to them on the field. Patrick Surtain II, a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, is one of those players.

He was a cornerback for the Crimson Tide from 2018 to 2020, winning two Southeastern Conference Championships (2018, 2020) and a College Football Playoff National Championship. A South Florida native, Surtain was a lockdown defender for Alabama and carried the mindset to the professional ranks. Surtain is two-time Pro Bowl selection (2022-23) and a first-team NFL All-Pro selection in 2022. He earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Unanimous All-American honors, and first-team All-SEC honors in 2020 at Alabama. Surtain grabbed an interception in Sunday’s Pro Bowl and returned it for a touchdown.

He helped the AFC put on a show as a former first-round pick.

Surtain finished last season with 69 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and an interception.
