The University of Alabama adds another defensive assistant coach that has experience in college football and the National Football League.
Kalen DeBoer said he would uphold the standard and expectations of the Crimson Tide his way, and he is doing it by assembling an interesting staff of assistant coaches. William Inge, 50, becomes the latest name from the University of Washington to follow DeBoer to the Southeastern Conference. Inge, a Missouri native, was a defensive end at the the University of Iowa (1993-96) and played one season of professional football (1997) with the Tennessee Titans. His coaching career started at Iowa in 1998, but he’s been a defensive mind at Northern Iowa, Colorado, San Diego State, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Indiana, Fresno State, and Washington.

Inge was also a defensive line assistant for the Buffalo Bills in 2012. In college, he’s coached linebackers, defensive linemen, and operated as a defensive coordinator. Inge was an assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach for the Huskies in 2022 and 2023. He brings veteran knowledge in how to attack offenses, especially working with linebackers.
Inge got the most out of the talent he’s coached, but now he has a litter of four and five stars to develop.
DeBoer wants to be physical on both sides of the ball, and the addition of Inge provides it.
In a 4-2-5 defensive scheme, outside linebackers become defensive ends. Inge gets an opportunity to help players such as Quandarrius Robinson, Keon Keely, Yhonzae Pierre, and Keanu Koht become stars.
