Bill O’Brien is on the move again.
He spent two seasons (2021-22) at the University of Alabama as its offensive coordinator, helping Bryce Young capture a Heisman Memorial Trophy and coaching the offense to a Southeastern Conference Championship in 2021. O’Brien left the Crimson Tide to be reunited with Bill Belichick in the National Football League with the New England Patriots.

He spent one year in New England (2023) and was recently hired to be an offensive coordinator for Ohio State University.
It looks like the 54-year-old was only with the Buckeyes for a cup of coffee. He was hired on Jan. 19, but multiple reports state O’Brien is nearing a deal with Boston College to its next head coach. Pete Thamel, a College Football Senior Writer for ESPN, was first to report the news. Brett McMurphy, a College Football Insider with Action Network HQ, followed up with a report.

O’Brien would have his third stint as a head coach.
He was at Penn State University from 2012 to 2013 and the Houston Texans from 2014 to 2020. O’Brien is a Boston (Mass.) native, so he fits right in with the culture at Boston College.
It will be interesting to see how he fits into the Atlantic Coast Conference. He does have experience in the ACC with time spent at Georgia Tech (1995-02) and Duke (2005-06).
O’Brien has ties to the Boston area and much experience as an NFL coach.
