Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer announced Wednesday that he has retained and promoted both Freddie Roach and Robert Gillespie for his Crimson Tide coaching staff.
“After meeting both of these guys, it was very clear to me that keeping Freddie and G as part of the staff was going to be important to our success,” DeBoer said. “These guys have great relationships with our players, are outstanding recruiters and have proven to be some of the best coaches in the country.”
Roach, who begins his fifth season at his alma mater, adds associate head coach to his duties coaching the Crimson Tide’s defensive line. Roach has sent four of his Alabama defensive linemen to the NFL with Justin Eboigbe expected to be added to that list this season.
Gillespie starts his fourth year in Tuscaloosa coaching the running backs and will also serve as the Tide’s assistant head coach. He has tutored three NFL running backs at UA, including first-round picks Jahmyr Gibbs and Najee Harris along with Washington Commanders starter Brian Robinson Jr. Jase McClellan is expected to be added to that list in April.
While appropriate members of The Board of Trustees have been notified of the proposed terms and conditions of this proposed appointment, the financial terms remain subject to approval by The Board of Trustees.
