Dawson Merritt continued to add some heavy hitters to his recruitment Wednesday when he earned an offer from the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Merritt is a 2025 four-star linebacker prospect, who attends Blue Valley High School in Kansas. His offer list is impressive with recent offers from Florida State and USC this month to go along with his Alabama offer.
The Kansas product feels an offer from the Tide is something one dreams of.
“I know about the winning culture Alabama has, so it’s definitely surreal to earn a scholarship,” Merritt told Touchdown Alabama.”That’s stuff you dream about as a kid.”
Members of Alabama’s coaching staff have a previous relationship with Merritt as a result of recruiting him when they were at Washington.
“They were one of my very first offers, definitely a great relationship,” said Merritt. “We talked regularly.”
Merritt is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds with very long arms. He is a versatile linebacker, who makes plays from the edge and off the ball. He excels in space and playing sideline to sideline as an athletic prospect. His style of play works well at linebacker in today’s game with how most teams like to sling the ball around.
He finished the 2023 season with 83 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, seven sacks and three forced fumbles.
“I would say my versatility,” Merritt said when asked about the strength of his game. “I can play in a variety of different spots which I feel makes me unique as a player.”
