Merritt attends Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, and he is currently a three-star on multiple recruiting sites. His offer list is loaded with top programs, including offers from Clemson, Tennessee and Texas.
The Birmingham product said he was shocked by his offer from the Crimson Tide but is grateful it came his way.
“It means everything,” Merritt told Touchdown Alabama. “I have been grinding for so long, and it finally paid off.”
At 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Merritt is a long defensive back with a solid frame. He shined when playing a variety of coverages as a junior for the Thundering Herd while lining up at cornerback and safety.
“I think I’m best at playing man to man,” Merritt said. “I feel like I can cover anybody. Coaches like my size and length for a defensive back.”
Alabama will look to get Merritt on campus soon.
