JaMarcus Shephard reveals why he chose to coach at Alabama, family connection to state

JaMarcus Shephard discussed the several reasons he decided to join Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa during an interview on “The Game with Ryan Fowler” on Tide 100.9.

Shephard is listed on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff as their co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana native coached under DeBoer in Washington last season. The opportunity to continue working under DeBoer and with the new Alabama football staff is one Shephard felt like he could not pass on.

“Kalen DeBoer is one of the best human beings I’ve been around in college football,” Shephard said. “The staff here, Nick Sheridan, and Coach Gillespie, meeting Coach Roach for the first time. These are amazing human beings, and that to me is what it’s all about.”

Shephard went on to reveal his family connection to the state which makes this feel like a homecoming of sorts to him.

“My family is originally from Uniontown, so my family has been Alabama fans for a long time,” said Shephard. “They’ve always cherished this place. Tuscaloosa has always been a place they would come for a night out and things of that nature. So for me, it’s somewhat of a homecoming to be here at Alabama.”

Alabama begins spring practice next week, and Shephard will have an opportunity to put his stamp on the new-look Tide.
