London Merrritt will be back in Tuscaloosa Friday to visit Alabama football for the first time since Nick Saban retired.
Merritt attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and he is a 2025 four-star recruit.
Kalen DeBoer met with Merritt last month in Florida
“I met coach DeBoer briefly when he came to IMG,” Merritt told Touchdown Alabama. “He seemed pretty cool. I did see that he has won everywhere he’s been, so that’s positive.”
Alabama was recruiting and trending upward with Merritt before Nick Saban retired.
The Crimson Tide remain in a good position with the Georgia native because they retained Robert Gillespie and Freddie Roach.
“The good thing is that Coach Roach and Coach Gillespie are still there,” said Merritt. “Coach G was the guy that was recruiting me and got me in front of Coach Saban. Coach Roach would have been my position coach under Coach Saban, so I think he would know how to play me,” said Merritt.
Merritt is listed at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He is one of the most explosive defensive lineman prospects in the country with an explosively quick get-off. The Georgia product also displays great pursuit of the football when he is chasing down ball carriers.
