According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots have finalized a deal to trade Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The trade will not process until the National Football League’s new year begins Wednesday and Jones passes his physical.
Jacksonville would come off a sixth-round pick in getting Jones. He played for The Bolles School in Jacksonville and grew into a prostyle quarterback prospect. He came to the Crimson Tide as a three-star in the 2017 class. Jones watched Tua Tagovailoa come off the bench to deliver the Tide to a College Football Playoff National Championship in a 2018 matchup versus Georgia, but he led Alabama to an undefeated CFP National Championship season in 2020. Jones had 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns, earning recognition as a Heisman finalist. The Patriots selected Jones at No. 15 in the 2021 NFL Draft, but things didn’t work out.
