The University of Alabama has one holdover scholarship cornerback from its 2023 recruiting class.

Jahlil Hurley, a former five-star from Florence (Ala.) High School, was one of the most talented in-state prospects in the recruiting cycle.

He displayed versatility in high school, playing cornerback and safety. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder totaled 99 tackles, 10 interceptions, 11 pass breakups, four tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in two seasons playing at Florence. He chose Alabama over Auburn, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia to play for the Crimson Tide.

Hurley took last season to redshirt for the Tide. He gained knowledge of the system and built strength in the weight room.

Kane Wommack, Alabama’s defensive coordinator, spoke very highly of Hurley last week in spring practice.

“Jahlil Hurley has been here for a number of years,” Wommack said. “He has a tremendous work ethic. I have been so impressed with him in the fourth quarter program, and the things he has done to elevate himself in position to compete for a job.”

Hurley has the size, length, athleticism, ball skills, and coverage skills to be a starter.

He has to fend off several talented true freshmen to anchor a spot. Hurley learned a lot from Terrion Arnold, Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry, and Trey Amos in 2023.

He picked up aspect from them to apply to his game. Spring practice returns next week for Hurley and the Tide.
