Nate Oats and Alabama basketball are on a historical run with them set to take on Connecticut in the Final Four on Saturday.
This will be the program’s first trip ever to the Final Four, but this season has had its ups and downs for the Crimson Tide. During a time when Alabama basketball was struggling on the court late in the season, Oats called Nick Saban, who watches ‘all’ of the Tide’s basketball games.
“I think just about every year that he won a national championship they lost at some point during the year,” Oats told reporters on Thursday. “Football is obviously different. There is a lot more games in basketball. But this year, they lost the Texas game, and he did an unbelievable job of getting the season turned around. So I called him, like how do we get this thing turned around this late?”
Saban offered advice on Tide basketball players keeping their minds focused on the next play.
“Coach, guys gotta go to the next play,” Saban said, according to Oats.
Alabama basketball will look to keep this mindset when they go up against UConn on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7:49 P.M. CST.
