Alabama quarterback makes a decision about NCAA transfer portal

Photo comes via SEC Media Portal

The spring window for the NCAA transfer portal opened Monday, and an Alabama quarterback made his decision.

Ty Simpson, a redshirt sophomore, is not leaving the Crimson Tide. According to Ryan Fowler of Tide 100.9 FM, citing sources, Simpson is not exploring any options in the portal. The former five-star from the 2022 signing class had a very good spring.

Simpson has improved overall as a signal-caller, especially his mental clock to distribute passes on time and quickly learning Kalen DeBoer’s offense under Nick Sheridan. A Tennessee native, Simpson completed seven of 12 passes for 102 yards in White’s 34-28 victory over Crimson in the spring game. He gained more experience last season, completing 11 of 20 passes for 179 yards in assisting the Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Simpson replaced Tyler Buchner, a former Alabama quarterback, in the second half of the Tide’s week three matchup versus South Florida in 2023.

He led Alabama to 17 unanswered points in a 17-3 victory over the Bulls.

Simpson is not going anywhere, and it is huge for the Tide’s quarterback room.
