Should Alabama football consider another veteran WR from the NCAA transfer portal?

John David Mercer - USA Today Sports

Spring practice is over for Alabama football, but the NCAA transfer portal is open for the picking.

Kalen DeBoer, the Crimson Tide’s head coach, mentioned offensive line and defensive back as positions Alabama could add experienced depth. It has talented players at wide receiver, but it that another spot where a transfer could be useful?

Alabama fans liked what they saw from Germie Bernard, a transfer from Washington, on A-Day. He led all receivers with 122 yards on three catches and has established a connection with quarterback Jalen Milroe. We have seen transfer receivers be impactful for the Tide, especially Jameson Williams. He needed one year away from Ohio State to have one of the most incredible single-seasons for an Alabama receiver. Williams caught 79 passes in 2021 for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was perfect for the Tide, helping the team to a Southeastern Conference Championship. Kobe Prentice, a junior, is the lone player with big production for the Tide. Kendrick Law, Emmanuel Henderson and Jaren Hamilton are talented, but have not been utilized.

Jalen Hale, a sophomore, was poised for a huge spring but a knee injury has sidelined him. Alabama has young names such as Amari Jefferson, Rico Scott, Aeryn “Bubba” Hampton, and Ryan Williams (summer enrollee), but they have to develop.

Cole Adams and Caleb Odom can be very good; however, they lack experience. If Alabama can add another weapon from the portal that fits what Coach DeBoer and Nick Sheridan want to do, it could be huge for the Tide’s offense.

Bernard is a good addition, but Alabama may need one more veteran receiver.
