He is in his first season as an Alabama football assistant coach, and Maurice Linguist is thrilled to be in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Dallas (Texas) native played safety at Baylor from 2003 to 2006 and has grown through the coaching ranks with defensive backs in college football and the National Football League. He has experience in the Southeastern Conference, coaching at Mississippi State (safeties) in 2016 and Texas A&M (cornerbacks) 2018 and 2019. Linguist is working with cornerbacks at the University of Alabama and got an opportunity to be mic’d up during spring practice. The cornerback room loves his mindset as a teacher with high energy. Linguist trained the freshmen defensive backs on small responsibilities, but he’s grown Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Zavier Mincey, and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. into the defense. He has a marquee job to get the Crimson Tide back to being elite on the back end. Kalen DeBoer, Alabama’s head coach, is overjoyed to have Lingust working with him on staff.
