He signed his rookie contract with the Houston Texans of the National Football League, regardless of the BC Lions wanting his services in the Canadian Football League. Metchie was a two-time Jon Cornish Trophy winner (2020, 2021) for the Crimson Tide as the top Canadian player in college football. He assisted Alabama to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020 while becoming a 1,000-plus yard wide receiver (1,142) in 2021. Metchie world was challenged when he was diagnosed with leukemia before the start of his rookie season in Houston. He missed the 2022 campaign to get better and stronger, but Metchie fought through adversity to play 16 games last season. Metchie caught 16 passes for 158 yards, and it felt good to see him do it.
DeMeco Ryans, the Texans’ head coach, is seeing Metchie take another step in organized team activities.
According to Aaron Wilson, who covers Houston for KPRC Channel 2, Ryans said Metchie now looks ‘explosive.’
