Keelon Russell has announced a verbal commitment to Alabama and flipped his pledge from SMU.
Russell is a 2025 four-star quarterback prospect out of Duncanville High School in Texas, and he currently garners a four-star rating from multiple recruiting sites. His commitment gives the Tide its 2025 quarterback commit.
Alabama has appeared to prioritize Russell from the moment they offered him in April.
The Tide’s quarterback, Jalen Milroe actually shares a trainer with Russell. Both signal callers have worked with Brad Standfield, who believes Russell can be better than Milroe one day.
“When you look at him, meet him and then you see his skill set, you’re just thinking if this kid is everything that I’m seeing in front of my face, this kid’s got a chance to be really freaking good,” Stanfield said. “When it comes to skillset, I put this kid through a bunch of NFL stuff, and he picked it up pretty much that day. It was pretty impressive, and so to watch him be able to do and then not overthink but do what you ask him right away is super impressive. There is nothing I don’t think the kid can’t do.”
At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Russell is a dual-threat quarterback, who can launch the ball deep with impressive accuracy and ball placement, and he can go to work when he is called upon to tuck the ball and run. He also keeps his head up and his eyes down the field when he is escaping pressure to make some exciting throws on the run.
