Fall camp for the University of Alabama football team starts on Wednesday, July 31, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The athletes are scheduled to report to camp on Tuesday, July 30, as Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff looks to produce a national champion in this team. In this series, leading into the first practice, the staff at Touchdown Alabama Magazine will break down starting jobs that are up for grabs.
RELATED: Who takes Alabama’s starting position at left tackle this season?
Competition will be marquee in practice, and DeBoer is only putting the best on the field.
After looking at the left tackle position, we break down Alabama’s battle at right tackle.
Elijah Pritchett
If he does not win the left tackle spot, Elijah Pritchett has a good opportunity to secure the starting right tackle spot.
The native Georgian carries 15 games of experience in his career and has improved at neutralizing pass rushers.
He has the potential be a successful offensive lineman, but Pritchett has to put it all together.
The 6-foot-6, 312-pounder assisted the Crimson Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship in 2023. Pritchett is a good run blocker; however, his pass protection will determine if he becomes a starter. He came as a talented four-star in Alabama’s 2022 signing class.
Wilkin Formby
Wilkin Formby is applying pressure to Pritchett for the right tackle spot.
People were high on Kadyn Proctor in the 2023 class, but Formby was arguably the most technically sound offensive tackle in the recruiting class. The Tuscaloosa native kept his redshirt after playing three games last year as a freshman.
He dominated at Northridge High School, earning an unanimous four-star rating.
Formby looked impressive in spring practice, especially in scrimmages and the A-Day Game.
The 6-foot-7, 320-pounder did more than hold his own, but he also stoned defensive lineman Jah-Marien Latham from getting to Jalen Milroe.
According to sources close to Touchdown Alabama Magazine, Formby gives Alabama’s offensive line its best for pass protection.
He also did a great job opening holes for Jam Miller, Justice Haynes, Richard Young, and Daniel Hill.
Formby could beat out Pritchett and make him a backup again.
Predicted Winner: Wilkin Formby
