Fresno State will be entering a new era sooner than expected as head coach Jeff Tedford announced on Monday that he will be stepping down due to health concerns.
Tedford was the former boss of new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer who worked on his staff at Fresno State serving as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2017-18.
Shortly after the announcement, DeBoer shared what Tedford has meant to his career during a post to X.
“Blessed to spend 2 amazing years with Coach Tedford and felt I learned from him everyday,” DeBoer said. “An X and O genius, relentless competitor and so much more! Most importantly, an incredible person and family man who cared so much about his players and staff! Thank you coach!”

Following his one season under Tedford, DeBoer would take the same role at Indiana which led to him eventually returning to the Bulldogs from 2020-21 to be the head coach. DeBoer then became the head coach at Washington for the next two seasons which ultimately led to him replacing Nick Saban as the head coach at Alabama after taking the Huskies to the national championship.
