He had success at the University of Washington under Kalen DeBoer and JaMarcus Shephard, but how good will Germie Bernard be for Alabama football with the same two coaches?
Bernard, a Las Vegas native, drew a worthy comparison Wednesday at Southeastern Conference Media Days to a former All-SEC wide receiver that played for the Crimson Tide. He came in the spring to Tuscaloosa (Ala.) after helping the Huskies win a Pac-12 Championship and advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2023. Bernard recorded three receptions for 122 yards on A-Day at Bryant-Denny Stadium, giving Tide fans a taste of what could happen in the fall.

Malachi Moore, a veteran defensive back, compared Bernard to John Metchie.
Metchie, a native Canadian, played for the Tide from 2019 to 2021. He practiced against Moore in 2020 and 2021, helping Alabama to a CFP National Championship in 2020 and back-to-back SEC titles in 2020 and 2021. Metchie earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2021, posting 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. He was great for Mac Jones and Bryce Young.
“Germie Bernard reminds me a lot of John Metchie when he was here,” Moore said. ”
Moore complimented Bernard’s route-running abilities, creativity, and the way he stems his routes.
Jalen Milroe can benefit from having a Metchie-like receiver in the room.
Bernard is looking forward to being a marquee playmaker this season.
