Alabama offensive lineman, Tyler Booker spoke with SEC Media in Dallas on Wednesday, and he reflected on the days following Nick Saban’s retirement.
Saban retired from coaching college football in January. His retirement put Crimson Tide players in a tough spot, not knowing who their next head coach will be. The New Haven, Connecticut product feels the Alabama players, who chose to stick with the program use the time as an opportunity to come together.
“Those first 72 hours were crucial,” Booker said. “We really banded together and said hey, ‘we’re gonna stay here and we’re gonna win a national championship’ because we haven’t won a National Championship yet.”
Booker’s return means a lot for the Crimson Tide up front as he enters his junior year in Tuscaloosa as one of the vocal leaders in Alabama’s locker room.
“We want this to be our team, we want this to be our National Championship,” said Booker. “We knew that we had the talent in house to be able to do that. We were 7 points away from being in the national championship so we can’t lose sight of that. We really just have to just try our best to keep everyone here, but to everyone that left best of luck.”
Booker made it clear his ultimate goal is to bring another National Championship back to Alabama.
