Paul Finebaum feels Alabama does not have a guaranteed second-string quarterback at the moment.
Ty Simpson secured the role last season.
Simpson returns to Tuscaloosa and is expected to back up Jalen Milroe ahead of the upcoming season. However, Finebaum feels this is not a guarantee and feels Arch Manning is a stronger option than Simpson at the moment.
“Alabama doesn’t really have an automatic backup,” Finebaum said. “They have good players, Ty Simpson is fantastic, but we don’t know that much about him. But Texas has the most famous backup in the sport, Arch Manning. So if something goes haywire with Quinn Ewers, Texas has a plan. It won’t be the end of the world, it will be at Alabama.”
Manning appeared in two games for the Longhorns last season and completed two passes for 30 yards. Simpson finished last season with 179 yards on 11 completions. Both players are former five-star recruits.
