We return to football action for the University of Alabama this week.
Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take the practice field for fall camp.
RELATED: Preseason grade for Alabama’s running back room heading into fall practice
Alabama is looking to capture its first national championship after coming up short in three consecutive seasons. The Tide returns experienced players, signed talented freshmen, and brought in veterans from the NCAA transfer portal. In this series, we provide a preseason grade for each position heading into practice.
After looking at the quarterback room, offensive line, and running backs, we now break down Alabama’s wide receivers.
WR Room
Alabama’s wide receiver is not like the 2019 group with Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle; however, it is very talented.
The Crimson Tide has playmakers that are ready to be unleashed on college football.
Kobe Prentice, a junior, is the most proven commodity of anyone in the rotation. He has 49 receptions for 651 yards and four touchdowns across two seasons. Prentice had a good freshman campaign and a sneaky good sophomore season. Kendrick Law, a junior, has 23 catches for 238 yards in two years. He has been on the cusp of a breakout season, but now may finally be his time.
Alabama brought Germie Bernard, a transfer, over from Washington. He totaled 34 catches for 419 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship and a College Football Playoff National Championship Game berth in 2023.
Bernard had a good spring game for the Tide, catching three passes for 122 yards.
Emmanuel Henderson, Cole Adams, and Jaren Hamilton are guys that have been in the system for a least a year.
Then, the Tide signed talented freshmen such as Ryan Williams, Caleb Odom, Rico Scott, Amari Jefferson, and Aeryn “Bubba” Hampton. Williams, a five-star, has been impressive since arriving in the summer. Odom, a five-star, looked great in spring practice. Prentice raved about Hampton’s routes in spring ball and sees him as a special playmaker. It is going to be interesting to see who rises at the position to become reliable targets for Jalen Milroe at quarterback.
Preseason Grade: B
