We return to football action for the University of Alabama this week.
Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take the practice field Wednesday for fall camp.
RELATED: 5 freshmen players to watch for Alabama heading into fall camp
Alabama is looking to capture its first national championship after coming up short in three consecutive seasons. The Tide returns experienced players, signed talented freshmen, and brought in veterans from the NCAA transfer portal. In this series, we provide a preseason grade for each position heading into practice.
After looking at the quarterback room, offensive line, running backs, and wide receivers, we now break down Alabama’s tight ends.
TE Room
Will Alabama utilize its tight ends more?
Crimson Tide fans ask this question because they have some concerns.
Alabama has six tight ends on its depth chart and all are capable of contributing. CJ Dippre is an athletic pass catcher that can execute routes and block well. Danny Lewis is freakishly athletic and can be used a red zone target. Robbie Ouzts has proven to be an exceptional blocker, but he can also get out in space and catch passes. Josh Cuevas, a transfer from Washington, helped the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2023.
Ty Lockwood and Jay Lindsey (freshman) are talented young players.
The Tide has a good tight end room; however, can Kalen DeBoer develop it? He showed the ability to bring out the best at the position at Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, Indiana, and Washington. Now, he has to do it at Alabama.
Preseason Grade: B
