Where Kalen DeBoer feels Alabama will lean on what JaMarcus Shephard is the ‘best of the best’ at

This year’s Alabama squad has talented pass catchers, who all possess many different sizes and traits.

The Crimson Tide’s wide receiver room ranges from veterans, who have yet to make a big splash in Kendrick Law and Emmanuel Henderson to players with experience and production in Kobe Prentice and Germie Bernard to young and unproven talent in Cole Adams, Ryan Williams, Caleb Odom and a host of other talented freshman and sophomore wideouts.

Kalen DeBoer was asked how Alabama would spread the wealth within the room. DeBoer joked in his initial response to this question as he praised the Tide’s wide receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard.

“That’s Shep’s problem,” DeBoer said. “He’s done a great job in our system defining roles, and you can’t have tendencies that are so obvious for the opponents based the personnel you have in the game…Every guy feels like they’ve got chances and opportunities to go out there and show you what they can do. And we do, we have some different skillsets that each guy brings to the table. So utilizing those and also just using the rest of whatever those guys have that may need to continue to be developed. Shep’s the best of the best when it comes to that.”

Alabama’s wide receiver group is focusing on the grind as fall camp continues.

“Our guys are just grinding,” said DeBoer. “They’re grinding, they’re attacking it, they’re making some great plays out there, and I can tell that they enjoy being out there and a part of this system.”

It will be interesting to see how the Alabama receiver rotation comes together as fall camp continues and game week draws closer.
