Kane Wommack, Alabama’s defensive coordinator, is more than excited about the group he is coaching.
He is determined to have a unit that’s forcing turnovers, creating pressure, and frustrating every offense in college football.

Wommack has been high on the defensive line, linebackers, and young cornerbacks in fall camp; however, he showed appreciation to a former Big Ten player after Tuesday’s practice. King Mack, who came from Penn State via the NCAA transfer portal, has been a good summer addition to the team. The 5-foot-10, 206-pounder is from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Miami, Fla.
He is a part of a new system in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) and Mack is pushing for playing time at ‘Husky’ in the secondary.
Mack was not an early enrollee, yet Wommack has been impressed with him so far.

“I have been pleased with some of the things I’ve seen from him,” Wommack said about Mack.
“He came from another institution and learning all the things he needs to learn, he has really taken that extra step in the summer time to do what he needs to do to execute.”
Mack will have his opportunity to be special at some point in his career with the Crimson Tide.
DeVonta Smith, a fourth-year defensive back, is expected to start at Husky. Red Morgan, a four-star freshman, has made tremendous progress and should be the No. 2 guy. Mack is continuing to grow so he is third in the rotation right now.
