Kalen DeBoer dove into some of the similarities and differences between Nick Saban’s defense and Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 defense Wednesday.
Wommack has gone on record and said he has talked with Saban during the Crimson Tide’s adjustment to his defense.
DeBoer joined the “Gojo and Golic” show and was asked about the Tide’s defense under Wommack.
“Kane is very well versed in what it was before,” DeBoer said. “I think there are a lot of similarities, but Kane and I knew this coming in, he will certainly continue to evolve and adjust to our personnel. There is a lot of diversity he does with the defense, lot of different looks up front, different looks in the secondary. That’s been done at a high level here for many years in teaching the secondary, but there is other things in the way it is presented with pre-snap alignments and so forward that Kane will utilize. I think that’s where you are going to see a lot of the differences is probably more in the back half. A lot of different pictures. I am excited about what I am seeing right now. Our guys are understanding it, and running with it, and the players taking it to the next level executing allows us to really cut them loose and let it be theirs. I am loving what I am seeing right now”
Alabama fans will get their first look at the Wommack defense on Aug. 31 when the Tide host Western Kentucky for their home opener.
