Manti Te’o recalls the moment he knew Notre Dame was in for long night in 2013 BCS title game

Manti Te’o got an early indication Notre Dame was not going to be able to compete with Alabama in the 2013 BCS National Championship.

Te’o’s indication came moments before each team ran onto the field. The game was at Sun Life Stadium, which is now named Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Both teams had to run out of the same tunnel, and this put the Fighting Irish in an uncomfortable position.

“Alabama’s locker room door opens, and they start running out. They’re going out, and I do remember this very vividly,” Te’o said. “My soon to be teammate, DJ Flucker and Chance Womack come running out of the locker room with their jerseys tucked up. Their big bellies are out. They have their fours up, and I remember DJ going by and say, womp womp. I remember vividly remembering the silence behind me. I kind of glanced back at my teammates, and the eyes on them were so large. I knew at that time. I was like, alright. This is gonna be a long day.”

Alabama went on to beat Notre Dame 42-14 in dominant fashion.
