He is not signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars beyond this season; however, his preseason performances in the National Football League could keep him in Jacksonville or create a great trade opportunity for him.

He is having fun again as a quarterback and earned the primary backup job behind Trevor Lawrence.
Jones accomplished this with putting on a show in his preseason matchups. He completed 38 of 52 pass attempts for 421 yards and three touchdowns. Jones did not turn the ball over, and he secured a 73.1 percent completion rating with a 115.9 passer rating before the start of the regular season. Doug Pederson, the Jaguars’ head coach, sees the connection Jones has with his teammates on the field. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jacksonville released veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard after the preseason.

Jones will get an opportunity with his play to sign a longer deal in Jacksonville or become a starter again elsewhere. He was a two-time College Football Playoff National Champion at Alabama in 2017 and 2020. Jones guided the Crimson Tide to an undefeated CFP National Championship in 2020 as the starting quarterback. He totaled 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns.
