Two Alabama freshmen named to Shawn Alexander Freshman of the Year watchlist

Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams (#2) makes a catch downfield in the Crimson Tide's scrimmage.

A pair of Alabama football freshmen were named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year watchlist.

Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown found their names on the list. Caleb Down won the award last season as a freshman for the Crimson Tide.

Both players are expected to see a good amount of playing time in year one in Tuscaloosa. The pair has received praise from coaches and players throughout fall camp.

Alabama linebacker, Deontae Lawson describes Williams as a wide receiver, who can do a little bit of everything.

“You can see that as clear as day,” Lawson said. “He is a deep threat, his route running is elite, and for a guy to be that young but understands schemes, zones, man coverage … it is just a pleasure to see. And especially coming from where I am from, it is good to see that.”

Brown has garnered much attention as well as he has been spotted working with the Tide’s first-team defense.
