The coaching staff for Alabama expects big things from CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts, but is a third tight end ready to pop?
Bryan Ellis, the Crimson Tide’s tight ends coach, is excited about Josh Cuevas. The transfer from the University of Washington played on a Pac-12 Championship team and appeared in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2023.

Cuevas attended California Polytechnic (Cal Poly) State University in 2021 and 2022. He earned third team All-Big Sky honors his second year in 2022, following a season of 57 catches for 622 yards and six touchdowns. He totaled 61 catches for 678 yards and six scores during his tenure. Cuevas arrived at the University of Alabama at 239 on a 6-foot-3 frame, but he added 12 pounds.
Now at 251 pounds, Ellis said Tide fans will ‘learn quickly’ how talented Cuevas is.
“He is a great kid,” Ellis said about Cuevas. “He works his tail off at it. Obviously, he has more knowledge of this offense than I do. I think you are going to see how big, strong, and physical he can be, and how much of a weapon he can be in the passing game.”
Cuevas will take to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday for Alabama’s matchup against Western Kentucky.
