Why Alabama commitment ‘means a lot’ to 4-Star RB Akylin Dear

Akylin Dear is Alabama football’s latest commit, and he is excited to be locked in with the Crimson Tide.

Dear is in the running across multiple recruiting sites to be the nation’s top running-back prospect.

The Quitman, Mississippi product had plenty of options to choose from before committing to Alabama including two in-state programs in Ole Miss and Mississippi State. His decision came down to a variety of factors, including an opportunity to play under Alabama’s running back coach Robert Gillespie.

When asked what went into his decision to commit to Alabama, he started his answer with the Tide’s assistant coach.

“Coach G,” Dear said. “Coach G from down south where I am at. So, me and him got a good relationship.”

Alabama’s freshman running back and Mississippi product, Daniel Hill also played a crucial role in Dear committing to the Tide. The new Alabama commits feels he and Hill both share the same excitement for the opportunity to represent the state of Mississippi in Tuscaloosa.

“Me and him being from the SIP means a lot to me,” Dear said. “It means a lot to him too. So, let’s go down there and take over at Alabama. It’ll be a good thing.”

The 2025 prospect plans to close his recruitment.

Dear is excited to see what Alabama will do on the field on offense this season. He remains in confident in DeBoer’s ability to get the football to the Tide’s running backs.

“I like how Kalen DeBoer used Dillon Johnson last year,” said Dear. “He is from Mississippi, so I feel like he is going to give me the football.”

Touchdown Alabama was in attendance for Dear’s first game of his senior campaign. He flashed several of the traits that make him a dynamic back.
