Kalen DeBoer and Alabama football will face its first true dual-threat quarterback of the season when they take on USF on Saturday.
The Bulls starting quarterback, Byrum Brown threw for 3,018 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. He also added 745 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. DeBoer feels Brown’s ability to run is something the Crimson Tide must be aware of.
“Very productive, both with his legs, is something that is very noticeable, not just on film, but with the stats and then throwing for over 3,000 yards last year,” DeBoer said when discussing Brown on Wednesday. “He has a great command of the offense, understands what the coaching staff is trying to do with their play calls and all the little wrinkles I think especially in different situations. He executes very well. We gotta be very aware of him taking off and and running with the football, whether it’s in the the read game with the running game and zone reads or different types of options where he can keep it. Then also him just taking off and running. He can cover a lot of ground in a hurry, especially if he gets running downhill on you. Appears to be very smart, very comfortable in the offense and doing a did a nice job in week 1, kinda really building on what you’d expected after seeing him last year.”
Brown started against Alabama in 2023 when the Bulls lost to the Tide 17-3. He threw for 87 yards and picked up 93 yards on the ground in the defeat.
Alabama will look to limit the dual-threat signal caller on Saturday.
