Jalen Milroe met with the media after Alabama football took down the USF Bulls 42-16 in a game, which was much closer than the score indicates.
Here is what the Alabama quarterback had to say:
On the key to gain momentum in the fourth quarter:
“Having the 1-0 mentality throughout the whole game. I mean, having an optimistic mindset. Something’s good about to happen. Then that was the biggest thing when we try to refocus as we get off the field and have an optimistic mindset and just trying to approach each play. It is just going 1-0, mentality wise.”
On Alabama defensive performance.
“We talk about team, that’s very important, especially when you can lean on each other throughout an whole football game. Proud of those guys for their grit and determination and how hard they play together. It’s definitely something that we can get our fuel off of and how well they play. So I’m super proud of them.”
On messages from coaches at halftime
“I think it was just refocusing. Just we can’t get those plays back. It’s all about uncontrollable controllables. We can control how we approach the field as we got out of halftime. So, that was the biggest thing. It’s all about refocusing.”
On What Alabama learned from win over USF
“We learned that you don’t win a game in one quarters, two quarters, three quarters. You win it in all four phases. Just see see the guys just have tremendous grit and pull out a win like that just shows the toughness and the want to in a sense. So, I’m just proud of those guys for the hard work throughout the whole game.”
On Pass To Ryan Williams in the 4th Quarter
“It goes all about practice reps and repetition. I think that’s a big key component when it comes to playing on Saturdays, the the reps during the week. It factors into how well he plays and how confident he is as a player. When we have moments like that, we can distribute the ball to our playmakers. It’s all about trust and then falling back to our level of training.”
On Kalen DeBoer message to him ahead of fourth quarter:
“Biggest thing was flipping the page on each drive. Even when we had touchdowns, the next play, the next play, the next play, having the optimistic mindset throughout the whole game. So, it’s awesome to just have the feedback with him throughout the whole game. He’s just a key resource for our offense moving forward.”
On the impact of having Tyler Booker available to move to left tackle:
“Tyler does a really a really good job influencing the guys in the room. He’s a tremendous leader. He has tremendous grit. He plays hard. He has a lot of pride when he plays. When he plays, he is a positive light to our whole all the guys on offense, and his leadership has just grown tremendously throughout the off season and then influencing going into the season. So I’m just proud of him with who he is as a person, how great of a teammate he is. I just enjoy just having him as my teammate.”
On Alabama offense progressing
“We’re not a finished product. It’s so much more we can grow and become as an offense. One thing is for certain is just the tremendous growth that we continue to make each and every week, and it’s gonna be evident as we go along this process and as we go on this process of a season. I’m definitely excited for what the future holds on offense, but we just acknowledge that we’re not a finished product. We just had to have that relentless pursuit to the team’s improvement.”
On TD pass to Kobe Prentice
“It’s all about trusting the scheme. When the play call came in, it’s all about going through my reads and being a point front guard with the football, just distributing to our playmakers, and it’s all about stepping up in the pocket, reading the scheme properly and then distributing it to Kobe. He did a really good job.”
