Former Alabama QB ‘super encouraged’ by way Tide using Jalen Milroe this season

Former Alabama quarterback, Greg McElroy likes what he is seeing from Jalen Milroe and the Alabama offense through three games.

The Crimson Tide’s offense has scored 21 touchdowns this season and is ranked number seven in the country in points. McElroy feels Alabama is playing to its strength on offense.

“Alabama offensively is playing to their strength,” McElroy said. “Jalen Milroe is responsible for 14 touchdowns this year. That’s the most by any SEC player in their first three games over the last 20 years. The other thing that’s been amazing is Ryan Williams. Pretty amazing what he’s able to do now as a 17-year-old kid. The fact that Nick Saban is comparing him to Amari Cooper is truly amazing. He’s the second Alabama player in the last 25 years to record a touchdown in each of the team’s first three games of the year. The other thing I’d say too, last year’s staff, it seemed like they were trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Jalen Milroe is not gonna be a guy that drops back and carves you up with efficiency in the passing game. And that’s okay because there are not many players in the country that are as dynamic as he is in the run game. So, if it requires Jalen Milroe to take off and have 10, 12, 15 design quarterback runs every game, so be it. That plays into Alabama’s strength offensively. So, super encouraged by what I saw from Alabama and their game plan and using Jalen Milroe on quarterback sweeps, using Jalen Milroe in quarterback run game on the perimeter, and then complementing that run game with downfield shots.”

The Tide are off this week and will return to action next week against Georgia.
