How the health of Alabama RB Richard Young could be an issue in matchup with Georgia

Alabama football had one injury in its matchup against Wisconsin that Kalen DeBoer did not follow up with the words “positive signs” in Monday’s press conference.

Richard Young, a redshirt freshman, sustained a lower body injury in the second half.

The talented running back did not return to action at Camp Randall Stadium, as the Crimson Tide got a 42-10 victory.

Coach DeBoer said Young is the lone injury report that needs to continue being evaluated. He arrived in Alabama’s 2023 class as a five-star from Florida. Young complements Justice Haynes and Jam Miller with his power, explosiveness, versatility, and growth in pass blocking. If he does not play against Georgia, who emerges as the No. 3 option versus the Bulldogs’ defensive front?

Daniel Hill, a freshman from Meridian, Miss., would be the option. Hill, a former four-star, had a really good spring and has 13 carries — including one for a touchdown. The 6-foot-1, 241-pounder brings brute physicality, toughness, and some versatility.

Alabama’s coaching staff seems to like him a little more than Kevin Riley right now.

DeBoer wants to see Young go against Georgia and hopefully, the evaluation goes better throughout the bye week.

Hill will be prepared, though, if he has to step up for Young next week.
