Alabama football’s miraculous win over Auburn in the 2023 Iron Bowl on a touchdown score on 4th & 31 secured more than just a win for the Tide.
It appears it helped the Tide hold on to a commitment from their freshman phenom, Ryan Williams.
The Tigers and the Tide both went after the former five-star extremely hard when he was a recruit. He committed to Alabama as a 10th grader, but Auburn continued to heavily recruit him throughout his high school career. He visited Auburn for the Iron Bowl last year, and they wanted him to flip if they defeated the Tide.
“I was just flirting with Auburn, and the Iron Bowl came and before that game, they were like, when we win, you’re gonna commit at center field, and we rush the field,” Williams said in the New Wave Podcast. “I’m at Auburn. This is an Auburn visit. It’s 4th and 31, and when I say I was shaking in my boots in them stands. If they would’ve stopped them, we were rushing the field right then. I’m entertaining them. I’m like, yeah, I’m a run. I’m gonna do it. I didn’t wanna do it, man. Next thing you knew, he (Milroe) threw it. I had to hit one of these.”
