Kane Wommack was the head coach of South Alabama for three years, but this weekend’s matchup made him want to leave his position behind and join forces with Kalen DeBoer at the University of Alabama.
Alabama fans will create a College Football Playoff atmosphere Saturday as Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium will be rocking in a marquee Southeastern Conference matchup. The Crimson Tide takes on Kirby Smart and Georgia. Georgia has not fared well against Alabama since 2007, carrying a 2-8 record in 10 games. Smart was 1-5 all-time versus Nick Saban-coached teams, but now he has a clean slate with Coach DeBoer.
Wommack, 37, looks to have the Tide’s defense firing on all cylinders at home.

He wants to stifle the Bulldogs’ run game, affect Carson Beck, and create takeaways.
He spoke Monday about why the showdown with Georgia is so significant for him.
“You come to Alabama to compete against the best and create value for yourself as an individual, as a player, and value as a team,” Wommack said.
“The greatest players always step up in the biggest moments. Whether that is on a critical third down, critical SEC matchups, red zone, or taking the ball off people, these are opportunities for players given to step up in the biggest moments and we are no different as coaches. We are working our tails off to maximize our opportunity as a coaching staff and we’ll let the chips fall where they may in a couple of days here.”
Wommack raved about Beck being the ‘best as they come’ in the SEC at quarterback. He highlighted Georgia’s rushing attack; however, Wommack will have his guys prepared to execute.
Saturday should be nothing but exciting for college football fans.
