ESPN’s College GameDay brought energy with Nick Saban, Crimson Tide fans had crazy energy, and the team was ready to go.
A sellout crowd of 100,077 made it impossible to hear all game long. Georgia made it interesting in the second half, but Kalen DeBoer emerged with a victory over Kirby Smart in his first matchup against the two-time College Football Playoff National Champion. Fans witnessed DeBoer make a statement he belongs in the Southeastern Conference in the most highly anticipated game of the season to this point. After earning a 41-34 victory, DeBoer was in awe of the fans for the atmosphere last week.
“That was a huge deal,” DeBoer said about the support from Alabama fans versus Georgia. “I got a chance to go out on the GameDay set and get a good feel of it. I was able to give them a heads up of it’s going to be a fun day. It was a lot of energy and when we pulled into the stadium, it was instantaneous, you could feel it. I am on the first bus with the guys. Their eyes were wide open and they were excited about what they were feeling and seeing. And then, of course, throughout the game … I just can’t tell you enough there was just an energy. The energy, the excitement of it, there is something special about playing in Bryant-Denny Stadium. I can’t tell the fanbase enough about how much the guys love it. We appreciate it and can’t wait to do it again.”
DeBoer enjoyed the atmosphere so much he missed Dixieland Delight being played. Alabama fans understood the excitement and it led to a huge win. The Tide is No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, and it now prepares for a road matchup versus Vanderbilt.
